8.2. Don't Include CommentsWhen returning information, don't include any ``comments'' unless you're sure you want the receiving user to be able to view them. This is a particular problem for web applications that generate files (such as HTML). Often web application programmers wish to comment their work (which is fine), but instead of simply leaving the comment in their code, the comment is included as part of the generated file (usually HTML or XML) that is returned to the user. The trouble is that these comments sometimes provide insight into how the system works in a way that aids attackers. |
